A Message from the Principal

Welcome to Fairfax! We are excited to welcome you to an incredible learning community housed in Mentor, Ohio. Fairfax Elementary has a unique layout complete with pods and a central area for students to work or collaborate.  Because we are in a neighborhood, we enjoy a Halloween Parade around the block that neighbors look forward to each year.  This allows all of our parents to take part and check out the costumes as well even if they are not helping with a class party.  Our school enjoys One School, One Book each year and the excitement surrounding it is unparalleled!  The staff puts in a great deal of time to make it amazing from decorations to daily questions and the PTA supports the process with the purchase of the books.   

We involve parents and families in student learning through creating an environment for two way communication.  Everyone in our school promotes an open door policy where they encourage parents to call, write notes or emails, or stop in to discuss their student’s progress or any concerns they may have.  Teachers send home various reports regarding student achievement and also converse with parents during conference and other times to discuss student outcomes.  They also communicate via online portals to share pictures of their student(s) in action or even a great work sample. 

Our school is a community and as such, we like to provide as many family friendly activities as possible to build on that.  Each year, we have a Fall Social, Ice Cream Social, and Arts Fest where families can enjoy time outside of school in the school building for a fun purpose.
